On this day, photographers were capturing the beauty of the clouds resting on Half Dome. To catch the drama of the late afternoon light on Yosemite's cliff walls, stop at the pullout at the first view of the Valley. However, If you’re a Photographer and want better light, getting here for sunrise or sunset would produce some amazing photos.First View of Yosemite Valley coming from Yosemite West along HWY 41. If you really don’t care about photo quality and don’t mind crowds, middle of the day would suffice. If you just want to see it and snap a few quick family photos, getting there first thing in the morning when the crowds are light would be best. Even the dead of summer is a great time but you’ll be battling both the height of the tourist season and the miserable heat that accompanies it. Winter will feature snow covered granite slopes of El Cap and Sentinel Dome while Fall will feature beautiful yellow/orange colors in the trees below. The view will be slightly different during each season. Inspiration Point is on a granite shelf overlooking the valley. For Inspiration Point, you’ll cross the road and begin your fight through trees. To get to Artist Point, turn left here and follow it for another half mile. The difference comes when you reach the old stagecoach road. As stated above, the first half mile is going to be a steep, uphill slog and for Inspiration Point, you’ll need to fight your way through trees towards the end.ĭirections wise, both are the same at the start (technically, you’re on the Pohono trail). The trailhead for both is located in the smaller of the two Tunnel View lots via and concrete staircase. Some even argue that either one or both offer an EVEN BETTER view because they’re both from higher up. The biggest advantage to both is that because there is a steep, half mile climb to get to both it tends to receive a lot of less people. ![]() Both offer similar, but slightly different views of the same you’d get at Tunnel View. The two viewpoints mentioned above are Artist Point and Inspiration Point.
